pip install riviaRIVIA is a Python package designed to interact programmatically with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS hydraulic models. It provides typed Python interfaces and object models for parsing and editing native HEC-RAS project files—including plan files (.p**), steady and unsteady flow files, and geometry files—alongside modules to trigger model runs and extract HDF5 simulation results.
Practising water resources engineers reach for RIVIA to construct automated modeling pipelines, run batch scenario simulations, perform sensitivity analyses, or extract spatial results programmatically without operating the HEC-RAS graphical user interface. While it streamlines HEC-RAS workflows, running HEC-RAS simulations directly requires a local installation of HEC-RAS or its execution binaries on the host system.
Ranked by the topics, categories and workflow stages they share with RIVIA.

Jacobs' 1D/2D river and floodplain suite — a UK practice staple with a genuinely useful free tier.
Benchmark-setting commercial 1D/2D flood engine with GPU acceleration — dominant in AU/UK flood studies.
GPU reimplementation of the CaMa-Flood global river routing model — continental flood simulation on PyTorch/Triton.
Python control and post-processing for 2D hydraulic models — SRH-2D and HEC-RAS 2D results to VTK and beyond.
