EPANET
The public-domain standard for water distribution modelling — hydraulics and water quality in pressurised networks.
Full MATLAB control of the EPANET engine — the standard bridge for control and optimisation research.
by KIOS Research Center
The EPANET-MATLAB Toolkit, maintained by the KIOS Research Center (University of Cyprus), exposes essentially the entire EPANET (and EPANET-MSX) API inside MATLAB: build and edit networks, run hydraulic and quality simulations step by step, and drive optimisation or fault-diagnosis experiments around the engine.
A large share of the academic literature on leakage detection, sensor placement and network control was produced with this toolkit. If your research group lives in MATLAB/Simulink, it is the established path into EPANET; if you are choosing fresh, WNTR offers similar reach in Python.
